Oh, I get it. My distaste for religion runs deep as well. However, in my own direct experience, I have not seen any overt religious-driven nasty behavior in my years around Buddhism. (Not to say that it doesn’t exist, but I haven’t seen it.)

For the record, I grew up in an extreme Southern Baptist area, and still hold the belief that all those fuckers are all pure evil.

I am atheist and my wife is Buddhist. While not exactly true, I view Buddhism more as a philosophy and it is more palatable in that regard. My tolerance for people practicing religion is also fairly high as long as they don’t try and “convert me”.

As a result, I have been to plenty of ceremonies for things over the years and it doesn’t bother me. Of course, I don’t believe in any of that “magic” but there is usually loads of good food that comes attached, depending. (Also, there is a high probability of after-hours gambling and drinking which was cool when I did that stuff, at least with the Asian crowd I roll with.)

Yeah, the pledge of allegiance is kinda stupid and has been cut from most schools at the start of the day. (That is likely regional though.) It’s still kinda weird that sports events still leverage national anthems too.

Many people here see hyperpatriotism as kinda weird and is more closely associated with (the bad kind) of nationalism.

To answer all questions like this, it depends on where you go. Some places are worse than others. Culturally important cities tend to be much more 'murica than others.

The US is a big country and it depends on where you are. Usually, expression of patriotism is directly correlated to the number of dualies found in that region.

Anywhere you go, in any country, you are going to find a subset of rabid nationalists.

In my experience, Canadians living in the US are more prone to express their own patriotism by hanging American and Canadian flags. (That is just my experience and also shouldn’t be considered a constant.)

I’ll walk through it again, as you are probably right, and I can find the mistake.

1800g is the estimate weight of 450gml silver powder.

The total weight is 1464g.

There is 250ml (g) of water at the top of the container, which we subtract from the total weight, leaving 1214g of a silver/water slurry.

(Here is the mistake) The weight difference is 516g, which is the weight of the missing silver in the slurry, not the weight of the water in the slurry.

So, I would need to convert 516g to an approximate volume of silver powder. Since we have volume, we can now compute the weight of the water in the slurry.

HF tools are not designed for the long term, generally. If you need a tool to work at least once, for one job that you are never going to do again, HF is “good enough”.

The rule of thumb is to never buy a tool there that could result in a gruesome death if it fails to protect your life, like jack stands. (Invest in quality safety equipment first if you get something like an angle grinder.)

I am just surprised when a Google one and they are still alive. Meth hit my small hometown really hard after I left there. A few people I knew had heart attacks in their 20’s. Sure, meth was likely the direct cause, but it was common place to start drug use early, so it was probably just a contributing factor. (Highschool jumpstarted my own alcholisim. We didn’t think of it as abuse at the time because it was so normalized.)

I would look into something like Doppler instead of Vault. (I don’t trust any company acquired by IBM. They have been aquiring and enshittifying companies before there was even a name for it.)

Look into how any different solutions need their keys presented. Dumping the creds in ENV is generally fine since the keys will need to be stored and used somehow. You might need a dedicated user account to manage keys in its home folder.

This is actually a host security problem, not generally a key storage problem per se. Regardless of how you have a vault setup, my approach here is to create a single host that acts as a gateway for the rest of the credentials. (This applies to if keys are stored in “the cloud” or in a local database somewhere.)

Since you are going to using a Pi, you should focus on that being a restricted host: Only run your chosen vault solution on it. Period. Secure and patch it to the best of your ability and use very specific host firewall rules for minimum connectivity. Ie: Have one user for ssh in and limit another user account to managing vault, preferably without needing any kind of elevated access. This is actually a perfect use case for SELinux since you can put in some decent restrictions on the host for a single app (and it’s supporting apps…)

If you are paranoid enough to run a HIDS, you can turn on all the events for any type of root account actions. In theory once the host is configured, you shouldn’t need root again until you start performing patches.

I remember a couple of first dreams from before I was a toddler. (I have memories from a loooong time ago, actually.) My dreams at the time kinda blended with reality and I couldn’t tell the difference.
