Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Divorcees of Lemmy, why did your marriage end?
27·6 months agoWe were both in the military and got married at 20 and 19 years old. She got sent to Korea for a year and since I was due to separate I didn’t go with her. She came home to visit after 6 months and something just felt off. The day after she left I was on my computer and noticed some files in the recycle bin. I restored them and found videos of a guy jerking off and talking dirty specifically to her.
So, then I started digging. I got into her email and found all the correspondence with a guy she met in Korea. The crazy thing was the things she was telling him were completely BS. She had basically made up an entirely different life, but with all the same people. I was apparently her asshole brother-in-law. And she came to Texas to buy a house with the “inheritance money” she got from her uncle. Needless to say she had no such uncle or money.
This then got me thinking about stuff she’d told me throughout the years and when I tried to put things together the more they didn’t add up.
So, ultimately I decided to leave her because of the lying. The cheating was bad don’t get me wrong, but the fact that she made up these entire different lives was just too much to come back from.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some good open world games/series that would be nice to take a walk thru from start to finish?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What profound statement has stuck with you over the years?
37·8 months agoThe major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What self hosting feels like (It's painful, please help 🥲)English
1·1 year agoDon’t forget the situations where you find a good blog post or article that you can actually follow along until halfway through you get an error that the documentation doesn’t address. So you do some research and find out that they updated the commands for one of the dependency apps, so you try to piece together the updated documents with the original post, until something else breaks and you just end up giving up out of frustration.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Forgot to pay my domain for a year and now I have to spend £2200 ($3000) if I want to get it backEnglish
1·1 year agoReminds me of a guy I knew who kept getting letters for a $10 parking fine he got while at university. He waited until they spent more in postage than the fine before paying it.
I managed to keep the same pair of sunglasses for nearly 20 years.
I lost them when I was helping my sister move and her mother-in-law mistook them for hers. By the time we figured it out she couldn’t find them.
