I mean non-Free Software.
Labeling it as “SECURE” (implying the other option is insecure) is enough to make it seem underhanded to me.
In other words, it’s a dark pattern that tricks users into letting Plex MITM their connection.
Every non-Free Software will betray you eventually. It’s only a matter of time.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed awesome buildings, but his “usonian” urban planning ideas (i.e. Broadacre City) were fucking catastrophic.
I haven’t been able to find the reference again, but I read something that said he actually worked for the FHA and wrote some of their design guidelines – in other words, that he was directly responsible for the proliferation of suburban sprawl.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those who play games on a PC with 2 monitors, are you a game on the left screen or game on the right screen person?
2·6 months agoI assume you three-monitor people use the middle one
Yes.
(I have 3 identical 1440p monitors.)
Although if I decided I wanted to play a racing or flight sim game, I might try to set it up to use all three (total 7680x1440). I’d also consider playing something like a FPS or strategy game on all three screens turned 90 degrees (total 4320x2560), but the last time I tried doing that was a long time ago (back then I had 1080p screens) and I don’t think I ever managed to get the configuration to work because most games aren’t designed to span across monitors.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the modern design trends you hate most?
2·6 months agoFor me, the issue isn’t just about durability, it’s also about how a cheap clear TPU case is way grippier than the metal or glass of the phone itself.

8·6 months agoBlue LEDs are BORING! You have the entire specturm of colors, stop using only blue!
Sad Shuji Nakamura noises
I mean, sure, they’re overused now, but that’s because they were such a breakthrough that the dude got a well-deserved Nobel prize for finally figuring out how to invent them. Think about it: it’s not just blue that they made possible, it’s the whole spectrum and white, too. If it weren’t for blue LEDs, we’d still be stuck using CFLs.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the best way to learn a new language as an adult?
21·6 months agoI was thinking more of how a teacher in a French class would force students to interact in French (or so I’m told, anyway — I took latin in high school).

“Self-destructing” is like fetch: it isn’t gonna happen. Stop trying to make self-destructing happen!
(No, seriously: the ability to enforce self-destruction of a message on a computer implies a pervasive Hellscape of DRM. You really don’t actually want that.)

2·6 months agoI’ve been using Duolingo. I get, and even agree with, most of the criticism of it, but I’m not sure anything else would actually work for me because the heavy gamification is what keeps me actually making progress at it.

(Kinda joking 'cause I know you just said you’re small, but I am genuinely interested in figuring out how to get a software dev job with a French company as an American looking to emigrate.)

I’ve got my kids using Linux on Raspberry Pis, and I honestly want them to break it so that then they have to figure out how to fix it.

Wow! That’s a lot higher than I would’ve expected. My guess would’ve been about 1%, or maybe even an order of magnitude or so less than that.
