Not really, no. Social Medias can and will exist at any scale, some more or less harmful than others. For example, even Lemmy is filled with people spreading propaganda for foreign dictatorships.
We should take the good with the bad and takes steps to protect our own rights and privacy while helping others do the same. Just as people did during the dawn of the internet, when scams we easily recognize today were unknown dangers before.
There are literally multiple Lemmy communities promoting youthful pornographic imagery, if not outright child pornography, so mentioning that Reddit had a scandal over the same content which they then proceeded to shutdown definitely isn’t an argument in Lemmy’s favor.
We also have militant extremist communities and advocacies for foreign dictatorships here, like all of Hexbear for example.

Family has some meaning, but generally everyone has always looked out for number one. Society exists in spite of human nature, not because of it.
You have a moral, ethical, and economic incentive to build a strong, close, tolerant, and inclusive community but not everyone is rational enough to realise they have more to gain long run by sharing and caring than grabbing everything that isn’t secured and running.
I’ve only ever spoken to highly intellectual Germans who spoke perfect English, but I’ve spoken to thousands if not more than a million of the most concavebrain moronic Americans imaginable.
They were also prevalent on Reddit but they’re more sensitive to the enshitification that some other countries like the USA and France are more accustomed to, so more Germans made the leap than Americans.
A lot of the internet is USA and Europe, and more recently India, just in general. China, Russia, and North Korea all heavily restrict their internet access and normal people in those countries probably don’t use english-centric online communities anyways. I’m not sure why the adoption rate seems much lower in other places, perhaps they’re still developing.

There is a US company that I understand the importance of so I won’t share the details but very few know anything about them. I’ll just say they make products used for arts and crafts, celebrations, and also Nuclear Weapons.
It’s not that I don’t bother with mainstream social media, it’s that I no longer have accounts with them and that most of my personal information on accounts with services like YouTube or Discord are fake names and addresses, sometimes even fake phone numbers.
