If someone ever claims to be good at something, I would want to see a demonstration that examples their expertise. Because it is hard to take people at their word sometimes, so a demo is required.
There’s a split opinion on when exactly the internet peaked at. You’ll have some people say 2007, others will say 2009 and then there’s those who’ll even say mid-2000s like 2005. My personal opinion is that I think it peaked at 2007. Social Media was fairly at its infancy with Reddit, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace all a few years old each by that point. Cell phone technology was still primarily 3G. The Messenger Era was at its peak but was also starting to steadily go downhill.
2009 was actually when the internet started to corrode and it began with Facebook acquiring FriendFeed and that cracked open the idea that corporations could take control of the open web, which they eventually try and do as the years followed.
I’d assassinate Robert Owen. He’s the man that proposed the 8-hour a day labor idea that we’re all enslaved to, today. If you got rid of him, Henry Ford wouldn’t make the 9-5 bullshit.

People remember Service Pack 2 as the definitive version. Base and Service Pack 1 XP was awful.
Service Pack 3 refined it a bit better.

DeviantArt chat rooms are surprisingly still around and they’re IRC-based in a way. DeviantArt just tucked them away and you have to know the address to get to them. Not a lot of rooms though left since sometime ago, they were all killed off.

There are some comments here that are pointing to sources that make you feel like you’re on the old net. But that’s all that they’re good for, is to give you the idea and feel of what it was like then, but you’re going off of someone’s personal memory of what they remembered about the old net. My memories of the old net differ slightly and I’ve been around for nearly 30 years online. So my experience was different and therefore, I can’t 100% relate with everything those sources put out although there’s no argument on whether or not they exist because they did.
But as for like for everything to be back as it was? Sorry but the spirit is long gone and it’s just a matter of you having to be there at the time and cherish what you remember. Such is the stage I’ve been in for a while now because today’s internet is fucking awful and has been awful for a few years.

I find how they try to make you feel like a winner every visit there as laughably bad. Always hitting the right spaces on the spin the wheel? Always getting sales? Always this and that with Temu. Okay then…
I wouldn’t ever buy anything big from Temu at any cost. They’re great for stickers, enamel pins and just general, casual level items. If you’re willing to wait however long it takes to get them to you, obviously from where they’re sourced.
