Linux@programming.dev•KDE Encourages Windows 10 Users to Switch to Linux
22·6 months agoI went to Linux because it was free and available. I used Linux Mint 22.1 Ubuntu and I didn’t find it easy.
I think it would be helpful to have a central resource with docs and forums tied in to an AI, so you could type in the problem and get an answer without having to resort to search engines - which are getting worse and worse.

Linux@programming.dev•KDE Encourages Windows 10 Users to Switch to Linux
72·6 months agoI wonder if some distro couldn’t give a plug-and-play experience for people who don’t want the extra security of having to use root and who don’t want extra customization.
Just wall off the sensitive areas and mimic the experience of Windows, but with newer, open software.

Coordinated big-brain evil.
Big plus - identify all accounts interested in privacy. Thus = suspicious accounts.
This is the path for Plex to become Digg, Playon, and reddit.

31·6 months agoMedicine helps too. I’m on Bupropion now, after having suicidal thoughts on Lexapro.
It’s been good for me; it has completely eliminated the ideations, even though things in life have actually gotten worse.

12·6 months agoGood for you. Keep at it, and don’t just think all counselors are the same. If yours is not working for you, just change. No real counselor will be upset if you do.
They will never suggest change themselves

Memes@lemmy.ml•It's almost like a colonial power intentionally divided the region so they'll be focused on infighting instead of competing with said colonial power
1·6 months agoYou know what would improve Wikipedia? A “search this page” option.
I was looking to see if the formation (imposing) of Pakistan and India was around 1918 along with all those other great Treaty of Versailles decisions like Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia.
I gave up. With long articles, we need a search within the article.
Speaking about the app. I don’t know about the website because all Wikipedia opens the app. I can’t even go there deliberately in a browser.

71·6 months agoScanned that, and it appears that the Muslim and Hindu peoples were fighting
As independence approached, the violence between Hindus and Muslims in the provinces of Punjab and Bengal continued unabated.
There’s a statement earlier that the fighting was instigated by the British, but it lacks citation.
The Congress was secular and strongly opposed to having any religious state.[96] It insisted there was a natural unity to India, and repeatedly blamed the British for “divide and rule” tactics based on prompting Muslims to think of themselves as alien from Hindus.[citation needed]

I typed my response before I saw this but yeah, it’s my first response every time.
My first computer, an Atari 520ST, came standard with 196K of ROM and 512K of RAM. The OS (GEM) was on a dedicated chip. Everything was run off floppy disks.

41·7 months agoIf i were a new employee I would see it as a lack of trust. Also as some kind of buy-in to the idea that you must be doing “justifiable” actions every minute of the day.

I sure hope they don’t use the word “team.” Because that ain’t it.

I agree that AI is ruining search engines (although they were already very bad because they were tweaked for people who paid to be first in results), but they actually can be useful in a situation like this, restricted to a very narrow data set to learn.
