Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When has an extra cost extended warranty actually worked out for you?
4·7 months agoBoth times with the new car.
Both times transmission within a thousand miles of the warranty being over (both times on the wrong side of the warranty, but they were cool about it).
Use a messenger that doesn’t require to to log in to view data stored on your phone. I’m sure the data is there, I’m just not allowed to see it.
I’m using the same device, I stopped using signal about a year ago, my phone has updated versions a couple times since then, every couple months I would go back to find a password or login that I was texted, a couple days ago I started signal to look for a login and it said it had to update, now it says I have to “secure your number” and use it to log in to retrieve my messages.
Signal also conveniently forgot all of my previous messages in the most recent update.
But hey if I log in and register my phone number they might be able to get it back.
Fuck signal
Threema for me

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which TV show do you watch again and again?

Uk, new Zealand, Australian, on repeat forever and ever. Even throw some of the Scandinavian versions on when I’m feeling focused enough for subtitles

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Since it won't happen the other way around, how do I get people to approach ME in public?
2·7 months agoHell yes! Grandma was wild! I love old person stories, so many of them are fabricated, but also so many that I think are fabricated turn out to be legitimate. Oh you did party with (famous people from back in the day)? No shit…

2·7 months agoI hate it as a tactic that’s been used on me, but darn if it isn’t effective. Also I genuinely appreciate people who offer their advice when I’m doing something foolishly, but my actions are from a place of genuine ignorance, not trying to catch someone into my friend circle.

41·7 months agoDo something poorly/dangerous in the gym, attach yourself (politely) to the person who comes to help,
Or do something you’re passionate about and offer your knowledge to people who are earnestly trying their best but not doing it well (be conscience and ask if they’d like your experience to guide them)
Alternatively go hang out at an old folks home, they’d love your company, they’ll regail you with stories from their glory days, and they’ll probably talk you up to their family.
Volunteer your time at animal shelters/public service events.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which monthly subscription service do you highly recommend and why?
1·1 year agoGeForce now. As long as you have streaming speed Internet you can play so many games, at such high quality.
Microsoft game pass, I haven’t tried it with the above because I don’t have great Internet (I’ve got grandfathered into the intro price of GeForce now, I’m not canceling it, I’ll have better Internet some day), but it’s better than browsing games at my blockbuster/warehouse/Hollywood video back in the day.
YouTube premium. I’ve only listen to ads when I’ve first turned on a new phone, every time I do I count my money as well spent. Add in YouTube music (much better than Spotify imo) and I’m good for 95% of my media input.
A hundred bucks a month on various content creators. Not listening to ads in my podcasts, not having to fast forward and rewind, and supporting the people who make my life happier, it’s a win win.
Dude I cannot understand the love that movie gets. Even the “scientifically accurate” go-to gets under my skin. I don’t know what it was going for, but it bristles my skin when I see discussion about how great it is.

We used to put dry ice in them and toss them under the liquid tanks as people were cleaning the insides of the tank. Definitely was a great reminder to use the PPE.
