Job markets are crap almost universally, definitely in the US and from what I can gather also in Europe. Average yearly wage for the US was significantly less than a third of what you say you make last I checked. Six figures is a major career goal for most people. Just getting above $100k a year is seen as a pretty big accomplishment. And you’re going to strut in claiming 3.5x that and just go “I see no way how this could be construed as anything but an attempt at conversation”?

To be fair, I’ve personally known people like you in real life. College friend who was the son of a doctor with his own practice, inviting us out to dinner at a place that “wasn’t too expensive”. At the time (2010), $25 a plate was expensive for working adults, let alone college students.

Yeah, but they’ll still create a shadow profile on you and track your data anyway. Have a friend with an account? Your name and phone number is known to them. Even without a true identity attached, they will track you from your own devices, and then correlate that with everything else they can at every opportunity.

Bare minimum: Uploading a video to Youtube, a Peertube instance, and to Archive.org isn’t much more work than just uploading to Youtube. Put links to all three in every description with the note that video mirrors are available at these following places.

I think the real issue is that giving up Youtube means giving up a revenue stream. Not a ton of people make video content just to create stuff anymore.

And again, if as the dev he’s not prepared to set up his own server for use to pass basic testing, it begs the question of what exactly he’s expecting out of his end users and if it’s truly a reasonable ask even if they’re prepared to self host

Only thing I could suggest is to make sure your DKIM and SPF stuff is set up right, but that only effects other email servers accepting mail from yours.

Lemmy doesn’t show overall karma anywhere by default, and as far as I know, no communities are using automated moderation to prevent “low karma” accounts from posting.

Not saying it isn’t, just that there’d be no point.
