Everything was just more fractured. Instead of a handful of options for social media, there were thousands of forums on their own websites. ICQ handled IMs and away messages was basically twitter. Before YouTube/spotify everyone used Winamp and internet radio streams for music, you didn’t have songs on demand, but compared to local “real” radio or MTV it was an overwhelming about of choice.

It’s honestly not that much different though.

  • Since nothing is going to stand in their way, how can we make sure they are held accountable for generations to come?

All that needs done is America threatening to cut off funding.

If Obama hadn’t have done that, this would have all happened a decade ago

Biden openly said he’d never do that, and talked shit as VP when Obama did. Kamala said she’d be the same as Biden.

trump, depends on if someone bribes him more.

But if America gets a progressive president next with the courage to say “genocide is bad” and actually cut off Israel…

That will make Israel stop electing genocidal maniacs. The only reason they can vote for people like Bibi, is knowing no matter what they have the backing of America.

Without that, they wouldn’t constantly be attacking other countries.

It’s like if you had a annoying little brother that picks on everyone despite being small and weak, because if shit goes down, you protect them

Sometimes, you got to let your little bro learn what happens when no one else fights their fights for them…

  • I mean, I always thought that was the point of all this…

Like, the strength of the fediverse is that any instance can go away for any number of issues.

Maybe admins go power mad, maybe the servers catch on fire, maybe a userbase just gets incredibly toxic.

But for whatever reason, instances will eventually go under

But the fediverse will keep going.

We’re gonna start running into kids who “learn” from AI.

Even if they never generated anything, they consume so much AI slop without knowing that they start to emulate the style because they think that’s how humans communicate

And also 1 post for 24 days. 0 comments?

Lots of brand new accounts make these posts about “fixing” the platform they’re on. Most of the time they have a different account, it’s just so toxic they know no one will listen to their ideas.

So they make a clean account that obviously doesn’t line up with the post.

A lemmy user lets say “blaze” who has many accounts. Its not unusual to see a new account with the name “blaze” in this circumstamce made by a completely different person who can use that to give the actual blaze a bad name which can lead to consequences for the actual blaze getting removed/blocked.

I’ve blocked them like ten times…

But they have to have like 30 accounts because I’m always seeing new ones and having to block them too

No one could ruin that person’s reputation more than they do themselves. No rational person makes that many identical accounts to use simultaneously.
