There are some interesting ideas out there, but not many trying things. Most companies are “sole proprietorships”, and frankly not much need for organizing the workers when it is only oneself.

I have found there are some local potters making things in Minnesota at a middle scale. I have not checked if all my plates could come from them (I am not in the market for new ceramics.)

This is a great idea as they can last decades, so the cost matters less.

There are areas they farm trees for paper. ( I hope few companies are cutting down natural forests for paper.)
